TOUR SUMMARY
An active tour program of cultural discovery in Frederic Mistral's "Empire of the Sun"! Provence is a magical region that comes alive during 6-days of activities and excursions with local Provencal chefs, artisans and merchants. Step back in time to Ancient Rome to explore the Roman ruins of Arles and participate in a recreational culinary class, "Cuisine of Roman Provence", at our chef's residence and private cooking workshop in Arles. At the conclusion of our cooking excursion savor the rewards of our work over a gourmet dinner of the recipes we prepare together accompanied by regional wines that will surprise you with their rich bouquets. Modern Provence offers local experiences shopping at the famous Provence markets that represent local artwork, crafts, artisan and culinary products, and that have played a key role in the livelihood of merchants and artisans alike for centuries. Guests visit our local cheese maker in the Camargue, and partake in wine & cheese tasting following a tour of the "fromagerie" (cheese house). We introduce guests to more of our friends of the region, all of whom have found their place in gourmet society through creation of chocolates and cookies using only the finest locally grown herbs and spices. Our pottery artisan welcomes us for a private visit of her workshop to learn about her unique style and artistry, and we top off our stay in Provence with an unparalleled walk of "the calanques" along the Mediterranean coast from Cassis. Each day of the program guests will be introduced to traditional gourmet cuisine through regional tasting menus with the finest chefs of the region. Designed for the active "food and wine" lover, our Provence tour program combines these unparalleled, interactive excursions and activities of cultural discovery with luxury hotel accommodations in a peaceful setting in the heart of historic St. Remy-de-Provence.
