Spice It Up - Bajan Style!

This Circle of Interest gives access to unique opportunities on board and on shore throughout the segment, with the insights of an expert guest host and the camaraderie of a smaller community of guests who share your interest.

Join our two Food and Wine Circle of Interest hosts for this spicy Circle of Interest with onboard activities and an excursion in Barbados. Our first host is Anne Marie Whittaker, famous chef and author of the book Treasures of My Caribbean Kitchen, and the creative genius and managing director of Native Treasures Gourmet Products. Our second host is Alan Tardi, chef and wine writer based in Italy, who has written about wine for the New York Times, Food & Wine and many other publications. In addition to the planned onboard and shore activities, the hosts will facilitate small community events as desired.

On January 13, join Whittaker and Tardi for a comparison and tasting of different hot and spicy sauces in a special exclusive onboard tasting. Later that evening, continue the journey of flavor enhancement during an exclusive Caribbean party. Whittaker will give true insights into Bajan cooking and the history of the unique dishes. In fact, one of Whittaker's unique dishes will be featured in La Veranda restaurant each day for all to enjoy.

Head onto the shore on January 14 to learn about Whittaker's sauces, condiments, spices and other products as she gives a guided tour of her factory. See how the famous old-fashioned Bajan Pepper Sauce is bottled and labeled, how fresh peppers are processed and how local delicacies are packaged. Then head over to a beautiful beach location where Whittaker will reveal some of her secrets while you relax in comfort. Help Whittaker prepare Rum Punch, Fish Cakes, Stuffed Flying Fish and Cook-up Rice. Throughout the process, you will be serenaded by a steel-pan player. Everyone can then try the delicacies and take home a special gift to treat your loved one with some real Bajan food.
