Food & Wine Circle of Interest
Santiago & Lunch Hosted by Montes Winery Founder

This Circle of Interest gives access to unique experiences on board and on shore, with the insights of an expert guest host and the camaraderie of a smaller community of guests who share your interests.

Join Food and Wine Circle of Interest hosts winemaker Aurelio Montes and writer Alan Tardi as we learn more about Chilean wine. Montes was named "Chilean Winemaker of the Year" in 1995, and for many wine connoisseurs the name Montes is synonymous with some of Chile's finest wines. After 35 years in the wine industry he has earned worldwide fame for his superlative wines: Bordeaux-style Cabernet blends, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Alan Tardi, chef and wine writer based in Italy, has written about wine for the New York Times, Food & Wine and many other publications. In addition to the planned onboard and shore activities, the hosts will facilitate small community events as desired.

On February 16 while at sea, join your hosts for a private, exclusive tasting of wine from the Montes vineyard, where your expert winemaker will enrich your knowledge of the aroma and flavors of this distinctive Chilean wine. Montes, a flag-bearer for Chilean wines around the world, has won international acclaim for its power-packed yet classy reds. Montes' top reds flow from its sloping Apalta vineyard in the Colchagua Valley where 700 truckloads of stones were removed before planting. So precipitous are the vineyard's upper reaches, the vines are reputedly tended by acrobats.

Then on February 20, enjoy a panoramic tour of the city of Santiago in its spectacular setting, with a photo stop at Cristobal Hill before arriving at a famous five star restaurant serving classic Chilean cuisine for a delicious gourmet lunch. Your lunch, hosted by members of the Montes family, will be paired with some of Montes' signature wines. Your extraordinary Chilean food and wine experience will be a lasting one as all participants will receive a "Signed by Aurelio Montes" bottle of the Montes Wineries fine wine as your parting gift.
